Bookkeeper – Payroll experience

Position Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our client, a bespoke accounting advisory form. As a Bookkeeper, you will play a key role in managing and maintaining accurate financial records for a diverse range of SME clients. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of bookkeeping principles, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals in an advisory-focused firm while contributing to the smooth operation of client accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Bookkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries

  • Payroll: Responsible for managing the payroll process on behalf of a variety of the firms clients
  • Financial Transactions: Record and reconcile financial transactions on a daily basis, ensuring all entries are accurate and in compliance with accounting standards.

  • Bank Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure all transactions are properly documented and any discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Client Support: Assist clients with day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including processing invoices, tracking payments, and managing accounts payable/receivable.

  • Financial Reporting: Generate regular financial reports (balance sheets, income statements, etc.) to assist senior team members in providing insights and recommendations to clients.

  • Tax Preparation Assistance: Support the preparation of financial documents for tax filings and collaborate with the tax team to ensure accurate reporting.

  • Process Improvement: Identify and recommend opportunities for streamlining bookkeeping processes and improving efficiency.

  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure adherence to accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements in managing client financial data.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • 2+ years of experience in bookkeeping or a similar accounting role, preferably in a public accounting or advisory setting.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting software (MYOB, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).

  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple clients and tasks simultaneously, with an emphasis on meeting deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of payroll processing and related software.

  • Experience working with small to mid-sized businesses across various industries.

  • Basic knowledge of tax regulations and filing procedures.
