Financial Controller | Not For Profit

MARS are proudly partnering with a leading not for profit organisation with a positive societal impact. They're looking to hire a seasoned accounting professional to join their team, to lead the financial operations, enhance financial reporting, and drive financial strategy and long-term sustainability. This person will be responsible for direct management of two managers and indirectly managing the teams underneath them.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present financial statements, delivering timely and accurate financial reports for internal management and external stakeholders.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including balance sheet reconciliations, financial adjustments, and preparation for external audits.
  • Proactively monitor cash flow, conducting robust forecasting and ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Support financial risk management, developing controls, long-term financial plans, and scenario models to align with strategic objectives.
  • Oversee all financial operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Grant Management, and Donations.
  • Ensure compliance with tax obligations, including Activity Statements, FBT, and Legal Trust Account reporting, while leading annual trust account audits.
  • Oversee grant contracts and organisational agreements, ensuring adherence to Accounting Standards and funding requirements.
  • Evaluate and enhance financial systems and processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and best practices.
  • Lead and mentor a finance team, providing guidance and professional development while fostering a high-performance culture.

About You:

  • CA/CPA qualified with 7+ years' experience with strong financial controllership and risk management skills.
  • Strong leadership of finance teams, with experience in line and performance management.
  • Proven leadership in internal and external audits.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting standards, legislation, and agreements, including AASB 15, AASB 1058, and AASB 16.
  • Experience in business analysis and long-term financial planning.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, judgement, and decision-making skills.

To Note:

  • Only CA/CPA qualified candidates with experience in people management will be considered.
  • Previous experience working within not-for-profits is highly regarded.
  • They operate a very flexible work from home setup of 1 day/week in their CBD office.
  • Must have full working rights in Australia.
